i dislike smalltalk. probably a large reason why i find first dates to often be tedious; but at least then i have a vested interest. potentially. so if you are a friend of a friend and you want my engagement in the exchange to go from marginal to trivial, say something like, "i was on mushrooms at the time." i've done the lab work, it's effective.
