there's this window when you are in a really low gear on your bike, and you are barely moving. and every movement of your legs and the pedals is directly transferred to the bike's movement. everything you do is translated one to one and so every input has an immediate and obvious impact. it is completely gratifying and fleeting because as soon as you notice it, directly or peripherally, you want to feel it more and in a very short space that feeling is no longer there. you are moving too fast and with every upshift become further distanced from the immediacy that had you for those moments. i think this is applicable to other things.
