meeting someone with whom you've only conversed(?) online is always a bit sketchy. for me anyway. perhaps it's no thing for the more adept. i've also found that talking to someone before meeting them is no guarantee that you'll get on well in person.

that said, meeting someone from here, whose thoughts you've been able to see into, somewhat, for years, i wasn't sure what to think of it. she noted that it was a bit odd to think that we knew all these odd facts and stories about each other but not a lot of everyday things. it was a little weird, and my awkwardness didn't help. but, in this case, it seemed like the person on the other side of the emails and the various blogs and reviews simply looked up from the screen. that isn't common but made for a comfortable evening.
